Part of my job these days is “Linguistic Technician,” and I am also a Linguistic Consultant-in-Training. Contrary to popular belief, being a linguist does not necessarily mean I speak many languages. Instead, linguistics is the scientific study of languages. I have a B.A. in linguistics from Michigan State University, and I am currently working on an M.A. in linguistics from The Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics. My published work to date is in Papuan languages, and I expect that to continue for some time to come.
